Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969), is widely regarded as one of modern architecture's pioneering masters.

The Barcelona Chair was originally created for the German Pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona World Fair. The Barcelona chair's design was inspired by the folding chairs of ancient Roman and Egyptian times. The frame was originally designed to be screwed and bolted together, but was re-designed in 1950's using stainless steel, allowing the frame to be constructed using a seamless piece of metal, giving it greater strength and a smoother appearance. Cowhide leather replaced pigskin which was used for the original. It has become an icon of modernism and received the honoured Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977.

The frame of our Barcelona chair is made from premium #304 solid core stainless steel and the cushions are covered in genuine premium italian full grain leather. The piping and buttons are made from premium Italian leather. The straps are made from bonded leather and riveted to the frame. Our Barcelona chair is a beautiful, large and comfortable chair.
